UK Tour -Day 1

Here in Wells, Somerset, to visit our old friend, the Bishop of Bath and Wells, and what a welcome he laid on for us.  First, a peak out of the hotel window;

Then a short conversation with some local residents;

Followed by a walk round the town;

Next morning, we had an excellent breakfast at our hotel, The Crown in Wells, before exploring the architecturally imposing and beautiful Wells Cathedral.

The Cathedral Chapter House is a wonder, as is the Jesse Window but, personally speaking, I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to see the clock and its automatons- it’s mildly interesting but not awe inspiring.

 However, there are some beautiful pieces of fabric art; altar covers etc, which are displayed along both aisles.  Unfortunately I can’t show you a photo; my snaps had too much reflection in them. Similarly, I failed to reproduce the Stations of the Cross, by Bulgarian icon painter, Silvia Dimitrova.

You could do worse than go and see these yourself. But I would definitely finish off the tour with a turn around the garden and a peek through the hole in the wall, displaying the intriguing sight of the well in The Bishop’s Palace Garden.
