Wolfscote Dale

Distance; 9.25 miles, 4 hours 10 minutes

Route; ‘Wolfscote Dale and Railway Trail’ from 50 Walks in Derbyshire written by John Gilliam for the AA. Following the River Dove from Stonepit car park up to Hartington then across to Biggin and back down the Tissington trail to the car park.

Facilities; Public toilets and two nice looking pubs in Hartington, particularly the Devonshire Arms which, I am told, serves a wonderful roast dinner. Also the Wellington Pub in Biggin which appears very walker friendly..

Back to the Peak District for the first time in a couple of months. I made the mistake of wearing my winter boots with my summer socks resulting in minimum cushioning against maximum stiffness of boot #soreanklebones.

The weather was grey and drizzly, but after=a while the sun came out to highlight the many wild flowers on the path side

Buttercups, forget-me-nots, pink campions and may blossom – the latter on a sliding scale from cyclamen to powder pink to white.
